The Arden Crafts Shop  Arden, DE

Arden, Delaware is one of the few remaining communities from the Arts and Crafts movement in this country. This community was founded in part by William Price, an architect known for his work in Atlantic City as well as his participation is such communities.

The Crafts Shop encompasses one of the original Arden buildings, known today as the Red House, a large addition from the 1910's which was renovated after fire in the 1960's, and a much later small addition. The Red House and the large addition served the community as the Crafts Shop but were later sub-divided into apartments, a function they have performed for over 50 years.

The community intends to keep all but one of the apartments and use the remaining space as a museum dedicated to Arden artifacts and information. S. Harris & Co. provided the Construction Documents for upgrading the safety issues of the building and installing the new museum in accordance with New Castle County Code while maintaining as much as possible of what makes this building so unique.
