Glen Foerd on the Delaware  Philadelphia, PA

Glen Foerd on the Delaware is a 19th century mansion in northeast Philadelphia that is facing the problems that plague many historic buildings - aging roofing materials and improper roof drainage. Over the years this has led to damage to the unique decorative elements on the interior of the building as well as many of its valuable contents. S. Harris & Co. was brought in to evaluate a new roof on the main building and the existing roofs on the addition and porch. The porch roof project  included the analysis of the roof structure for possible replacement and the redesign of the existing drainage system to provide a more effective means of removing water from the roof.

The Carriage House at Glen Foerd on the Delaware is a solidly built structure dating from the early twentieth century.  It is currently being used to store much of the furniture from the main house which is not currently on display. The Carriage House has withstood time well with the exception of the roof and its associated structure as evidenced by the rotation of the cupola. S. Harris & Co. was hired to provide a report on the condition of the roofing, roof structure, and cupola along with a scope of repair which was then included in a Glen Foerd Conservation Corporation Keystone grant application. If approved, money from the grant will be used to repair the roof structure and stabilize the cupola.
