ALEXANDER T. RANKIN-JOHN MAIER HOUSE, FORT WAYNE, IN

S. Harris & Co. was hired by ARCH, a non-profit organization for historic preservation and community heritage in Ft. Wayne, to survey the Alexander T. Rankin-John Maier House.  The building was nominated for placement on the National Register of Historic Places because of its association with a prominent person.  Alexander T. Rankin was an abolitionist and organized and participated in antislavery activities in both Ohio and Indiana.  The house, which is an interesting construction of a brick structure and an existing  wooden structure fitted together, is the only structure standing in Fort Wayne that is directly connected to abolition.  Mr. Harris also participated in the Cornelius O'Brien Lecture Series on Historic Preservation while in Ft. Wayne, giving a presentation on the structure at the Allen County/Ft. Wayne Historical Society.
