SEDGWICK THEATER, PHILADELPHIA, PA

S. Harris & Co. was retained by the Sedgwick Theater to provide preliminary information regarding possible future uses for the building and to identify the issues that must be resolved before a fit-out can be accommodated.  We specialize in existing building technologies and solving complex problems that older buildings present.  With regard to historic preservation, we closely follow the guidelines provided in the Secretary of Interior Standards for Rehabilitation.  We have spent many years restoring, rehabilitating, and reinventing existing buildings to suit the needs of our clients.

The Sedgwick Theater was built in 1928 in the Mt. Airy area of Philadelphia, PA.  Designed by renowned architect, William Harold Lee, Sedgwick is a fine example of a 1920's Art Deco Movie Palace.  It was built during the advent of the talkies and included a stage for live performances.  The theater remained in operation until 1966 when it closed down and was subsequently purchased for use as a warehouse.  In 1995, David and Betty Ann Fellner set up the Sedgwick Cultural Center, which features a wide variety of activities, such as music, fine arts, film, and other events.
